Both York and Münster have active anti-food-waste campaigns. The groups have met virtually and face to face to discuss ideas for shared activities. Plans include: Münster visit to York to share experiences and tips, an online workshop, youth exchanges. Interested? At a first meeting in July 2021, a dozen Münster and York food-sharing and food bank volunteers met online to explain what we do, when, how and why. Organisations mentioned were:
in Münster, fairTeilBar and Foodsharing
in York, YourCafe, Kitchen for Everyone York, EdibleYork, Luke's Larder, FareShare, TooGoodToGo
The setups are very different. In Münster the organisations are national, managed top-down, with impressive structures, and ideologically based, i.e. keen to reduce and eliminate food waste. In York small groups operate individually, working to meet the needs of their local community; they benefit from national initiatives such as FareShare but contact supermarkets individually for best-before-date produce.
